Environment Agency Activity or Boys with Toys!

Shortly before 8.00am the car park was opened and the arrival of several cars sparked my interest!

A high tec boat had been unloaded and I was told a survey was going to take place using this remotely controlled vessel to take measurements of tidal flow etc in the channel.

A chap had previously been walking the entire length of the new spit complete with GPS on his back carrying out his own survey.

All the while( since before 7.00am ) the Digger, bulldozer and two trucks were building the road bridge (again) and making use of the short window of opportuniy to shift more shingle shorewards.

As high tide approached the remote control boat was put into service

It struggled against the incoming somewhat but survived!
Meanwhile, various bits of tecnology were used to monitor its performance...
...plus much discussion!

Lets hope the effort results in positive action.

Unsafe seating area outside Pagham Yacht Club.

Shingle geo-bags to protect the most vulnerable bungalows

More geo-bags for the west end of the crumbling revetment...

...being lowered into position.
The beach viewed  from the emerging war time iron work which has been uncovered.

More geobags  presumably to be covered by shingle

The revetment at the western end showing where the geobags are being placed.

Friday 14 November 2014

During the last couple of days a few more rocks have been put in front of the most vulnerable bungalows and a ramp allows machinery to get up from the lower beach.

But, it's looking more and more like a building site
Pagham Beach really is becoming  unrecognisabe.

On local T.V. news again this morning...the Mulberry Harbour memorial stone.

The large granite rock on which this memorial plaque is fixed has been a feature of the seating area just in front of the yacht club for many years. It appears that this too, is in danger!
The next three shots indicate how vulnerable it is...

Arun District Council put some shingle geobags around the concrete slab as a short term measure to prevent it sliding into the sea.
Again this morning the road bridge was being reinstated, after it had been washed away overnight.

More stones were expected today to reinforce the bay between groyne three and four which has been so badly affected in the last few days.

...and so it goes on!

Tuesday 11 November 2014

Another early start.

The Yacht Club just before sunrise

Groyne four...again, just before sunrise.
Hey ho, hey ho...it's off to work we go!

Just as the sun rises

...off to collect more shingle!

Even the 'poor' tree  is on its way again!

Monday 10 November 2014

At first light this morning.

A very short window of opportunity at sunrise...

...to gather more shingle under a threatening sky..
..to replace some which was washed away during the weekend

Even the concrete block and the seats in front of the Yacht Club are now 'on their way'

Saturday 8 November 2014

Another high tide!

This is getting serious!......

Compare to yesterdays photo at low tide.

This is not good!
It cannot get much closer to the properties...until disaster strikes.
Enough said.

Friday 7 November 2014

Another tense night!

A Dramatic Sky over the beach this afterrnoon.
High seas, high winds and a high spring tide overnight had Arun Distict Council scurrying about with rocks and geobags in an endeavour to protect properties....

Low tide this afternoon showed the results of their  endeavours...

I don't think the residents can relax just yet!
High tides continue for a few days.

Thursday 6 November 2014

Early morning on the beach...

Sunrise at 7.03 am over the sea this morning  ....

One man and his dog....enjoying the peace of an early morning walk.
Reflections...Little Lagoon

A few low angle shots along the way.

Teazles.

A really cracking morning!
