Pagham Air Show!

Both Bournemouth and Shoreham had air shows today and although the Canadian Lancaster was grounded we did enjoy a flypast of  the Flying Fortress  and distant views of the Vulcan from the beach!

The Flying Fortress, Sally B as  featured in the film "Memphis belle"...in close up.

A distant shot of the Vulcan.

Latest photos of current work.

For the past few days the diggers have been digging....again! Shingle is being replaced in front of the most vulnerable properties....again! The tree that was washed away from its original position and has  been dead for weeks, has now been placed carefully above the tide line.

The 'poor' tree in it's new position.
Looking up the beach...sandbags at the ready together with a delivery of stones.
Looking along the beach....westwards.

Shingle ready for back filling ...again.

Hurricane Bertha Hits the Beach

Well, not quite, but the tail end of Bertha resulted in a stormy morning......

Looking towards Bognor at high tide.
Looking towards the spit.

If the wind had been in a different direction the fencing might have been lost!

Flattened!
No worries...Arun District Council were on the scene in late afternoon and soon had the matter under control...and the fence was in position again albeit just a little nearer the bungalows!

The Annual Lifeboat display.

This event takes place every year and centres around a 'rescue' near the Pagham Yacht Club.

The Coastguard Helicopter arrives on scene.
The 'casualty' in the water with flare.

The winchman safely delivers the 'casualty' onto the lifeboat.
...and is then returned to the helicopter.
...all watched by a team from the coastguards who had walked the entire length of the spit.
